DC Murder Suspect In Custody Following Lengthy Investigation Into Fatal Summer Shooting: Police

A months-long investigation into the fatal shooting of a 40-year-old man in Washington, DC over the summer led to the arrest of a wanted suspect, a Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson announced.

Oxon Hill resident Desmond Gaskin, Jr., has been charged with murder on Monday, Oct. 17 for his alleged role in the shooting of William Whittington, Jr. in Southeast DC in July.

Shortly before 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, officers from the department were called to the 400 block of Burbank Street in Southeast, where there was a reported shooting.

Upon arrival, officers say they found Whittington suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics responded to the scene and he was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.

No motive for the shooting has been announced by police investigators.

Gaskin was transported to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch, where he was charged with second-degree murder while armed. No initial court date was announced by investigators.
